The members of the Freight Management Association of Canada (FMA) introduced an international network on Monday that is set to reduce costs and improve service levels on Canada’s roads and rails.
The network, made up of 15 members from around the world, will operate as a freight broker for international freight that originates or is destined for Canada.
The association, which has strong ties to Australia, is also looking at introducing programs that allow drivers to earn international freight pilot-packs, as well as the ability for carriers to apply for a C-Train carrier card.
The FMA will run freight on existing Canadian rail and highway networks.
"This strategic alliance with freight management organizations in Asia and Europe will offer a worldwide reach to bring international freight to Canada's doorstep," said Peter Nicholson, FMA chairman and CEO of AA Transport and Logistics, in a statement.
The FMA has also agreed to make its app, FreightMinder, available to agencies worldwide.
